The Story Teller's Collective offers a distinctive musical soundscape for listeners, testing the lines of harmonic colour and contrast.
Led by Winnipeg composers Monica Jones and Sean Irvine, the ensemble blends unconventional jazz dialects with a delicate balance of tradition and modernity. Through the interplay of acoustic strings, woodwinds, brass, and rhythm section, the duo's 10 piece orchestra creates a thought-provoking and immersive experience that invites listeners to discover a unique original artistic vision.

”Where Folk Meets Jazz”…
In its purest form, Kind
Neighbours aims to blend
the traditional singer/
songwriter genre with the
linguistic nuances of jazz.
Composer and arranger Sean Irvine's contemporary project reimagines works from classic and emerging singer-songwriters, orchestrating them for a five-piece ensemble. Featured artists include Lisa Hannigan, John Mayer, Olivia Kramer, Emily Elbert, Joanie Mitchell, and Sufjan Stevens, among others. Audiences are certain to find home with the sounds of this newly established project.
Erin Propp's vibrant vocals infuse the lyrics with depth, while pianist Kevin Curtis, bassist Karl Kohut, and percussionist Paul Klassen collaborate in real-time to reimagine folk and singer-songwriter classics.
The ensemble made its debut in the fall of 2023 at the Jazz Winnipeg: Fort Garry Series with plans to record in the near future.
